I'd definitely choose 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' I recall talking about this picture some years ago, in one of your classes. As you probably know, baroque style is my favourite one, and this is a clear example. Its neutral black background cleary contrasts with the brighty lit woman's efiggy, bring Caravaggio's way of painting back, but overall, the character's psychological insight is vividly depicted, if we look to her, intensely gazing towards the spectator, as the most of the time baroque's painters used to do.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great painting, Carlos. I agree with you. I also loved the book by Tracy Chevalier and the film adaptation.
DeleteI'd probably choose the Monet myself though and this would be my second choice. I don't think I'd hang any of the others in my home. Ah, well, I've just looked at them again and I also like Starry Night.
Your paragraph is very good. Let me correct a couple of things:
I'd definitely choose 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' I recall talking about this picture some years ago, in one of your classes. As you probably know, Baroque (CAPITAL B) is my favourite STYLE, and this is a clear example. Its neutral black background clearLy contrasts with the brightLy lit woman's EFFIGY, bringING Caravaggio's way of painting back, but overall, the character's psychological insight is vividly depicted, if we look AT her, intensely gazing towards the spectator, as Baroque's painters used to do MOST OF THE TIME.
Thanks so much for your contribution
1. I like a couple of them, but my favorite is Monet's painting, I love a lots the brushstroke effect that he made with bright colors. If it was on my wall, I would find inspiration every morning, I believe this paint is very expresive and vibrant.
ReplyDelete2. I would never choose the fifth one, I think it's too serious for me, however the technique used was so clean.
3. I know a bit about them:
- Dalí was a surrealism painter from Spain, very influential in his time because of their peculiar style and innovative ideas on painting, cinema and fashion.
- Monet was a French passionate about the light effect in one specific moment, he was one of the fathers of impressionism.
- Frida was a Mexican woman who spent almost whole her life in bed, due to an accident when she was a tenager. However, all this time for Frida was a cult to express her own feelings through painting. Nowaday in Mexico Frida is synonymous with feminity because of her freedom of expression.
Hello Gaby,
DeleteThanks for sharing your opinion and all the interesting information. See some corrections below:
1. I like a couple of them, but my favorite is Monet's painting, I love the brushstroke effect (a lot is not necessary because you are already using a verb -to love- that implies exaggeration) that he CREATED with bright colors. If it was on my wall, I would find inspiration every morning, I believe this paint is very expreSsive and vibrant.
2. I would never choose the fifth one, I think it's too serious for me, however the technique used was (EXTREMELY, this is not an exclamation) clean.
3. I know a bit about them:
- Dalí was a surrealisT painter from Spain, very influential in his time because of HIS peculiar style and innovative ideas on painting, cinema and fashion.
- Monet was a FrenchMAN passionate about the light effect in one specific moment, he was one of the fathers of impressionism.
- Frida was a Mexican woman who spent almost whole her life in bed, due to an accident when she was a teEnager. However, all this time for Frida was a cult to express her own feelings through painting. NowadayS, in Mexico Frida is synonymous with feminiNIty because of her freedom of expression.
Well done! Let me know if you have any questions.
