For some reason, the notifications have stopped working. I have just changed something in the settings today hoping it will work.
On your side, please, remember to tick notify me when you write a comment.
I don't understand why I don't have the problem myself: I receive a notification when you write something and when I answer. Mysteries of technology...
I've asked my son (who's studying IT at university) and he doesn't have a clue.
This is what Google says:
Blogger's default settings do not automatically send an email notification to the original commenter when you, the blog owner, reply to them. For a commenter to receive notifications of subsequent comments or replies (including yours), they must manually check the "Notify me" box when they post their own comment.
This "Notify me" feature has the following limitations:
- It sends notifications for all new comments on that specific post, not just replies to their own comment.
- The option is typically only visible and functional for users who are logged in with a Google account.
- There has been a known issue where this feature does not work reliably with "embedded/nested comments" settings.
What You Can Do
You cannot change a setting on your end to force notifications to your commenters. The control rests with the commenter to opt-in to notifications when they leave their comment.
However, here are some options to improve engagement:
- Ensure "Embedded Comments" are enabled (but be aware of the bug):
- Go to your Blogger Dashboard > Settings > Posts and comments.
- Under "Comment Location", select Embedded. This setting provides the "reply" function for individual comments. Be aware of the bug mentioned above, where the "Notify me" checkbox may not work correctly with this setting.
- Encourage commenters to use the "Notify me" feature: Add a note near your comment section or in a blog post asking people to check the "Notify me" box if they want to follow the conversation.
So for those of you who know more about computers than me: should I use embedded or not embedded? Embedded is what I was using till today, but it stopped working a few days ago.
Anyway, remember I will always answer your comments.
